Autodesk Maya
Train using Autodesk Maya, the industry-standard software used in professional animation studios worldwide. Throughout the program, you’ll develop hands-on experience navigating production workflows, animating characters, and preparing shots to a studio-ready level. By graduation, you’ll be confident working inside Maya and ready to apply your skills in a professional production environment.

Build a strong technical base in timing, spacing, weight, posing, and body mechanics. You’ll develop the core principles that make movement feel natural, believable, and expressive, whether you are aiming for realistic or stylized.

Storytelling
Strong animation begins with strong ideas. You’ll explore visual storytelling, character intention, and performance planning to ensure every shot communicates clearly and purposefully. You’ll learn how to develop concepts that support emotion, action, and narrative, building a foundation that strengthens your animation from the first pose to the final frame.

Workflows
Learning 3D animation workflows gives you a whole overview of the different processes, stages, and roles in 3D animation. The perfect way to figure out what you want to specialize in!

Character performance
Focus on full-body acting and physical storytelling. You’ll animate walk cycles, weight shifts, gestures, and action-based shots that convey intention through movement and body mechanics. This is where you learn how posture, timing, and physical choices define personality on screen.

Zoom in on the subtleties that sell emotion. You’ll animate dialogue, mouth shapes, eye focus, and micro-expressions to create believable, nuanced performances. This stage refines the details that make a character feel truly alive and emotionally authentic.

Understand the fundamentals of 3D lighting using Arnold in Maya. You’ll learn how to present your animation professionally and elevate the final look of your work.

Accredited animation education
The 3D Animation Program has been approved by the Private Training Institutions Regulatory Unit (PTIRU) of the Ministry of Post-Secondary Education and Future Skills.
InFocus programs do not lead to regulated career pathways, as careers in the film and media industries are not subject to occupational regulation in Canada. However, graduates often go on to work for major studios, production companies, and media organizations both locally and internationally.
The fine print
Program details
600 hours delivered over 30 instructional weeks. The program is divided into 3 terms of 10 weeks each. There is a 1-week break in between each term.
100% Distance Learning with asynchronous components
Minimum 534 hours for graduation eligibility. Students are expected to attend all classes, arrive on-time, and stay for the duration of the class.
Students are expected to make satisfactory progress in their studies. Any student who fails two or more courses in a term must meet with the department head to discuss their academic performance. Passing Grade is equal to 60%.
