Use light and shadow to convey tone, mood, and character. Craft compelling visual narratives that support and enhance the story. Explore the emotional impact of camera movement, composition and framing. Study the visual language of cinema. Learn how great cinematographers collaborate with directors to tell unforgettable stories.

Our launchpad Cinematography Course is designed for those eager to break into the film industry fast. Through hands-on training, expert mentorship, and industry-driven techniques, you’ll develop the skills to craft compelling visuals that captivate audiences. From mastering camera movement and lighting to shaping emotion through framing and colour, this program equips you with the creative and technical expertise to stand out in a competitive industry.
Accredited cinematography education
The Cinematography Program has been approved by the Private Training Institutions Regulatory Unit (PTIRU) of the Ministry of Post-Secondary Education and Future Skills.
InFocus programs do not lead to regulated career pathways, as careers in the film and media industries are not subject to occupational regulation in Canada. However, graduates often go on to work for major studios, production companies, and media organizations both locally and internationally.
The fine print
Program details
371 hours delivered over 12 weeks of instruction. Delivery is over 12 consecutive weeks with 0 weeks break. The program consists of 7 required courses.
On-campus
Full Time, Monday – Friday 9:00am – 5:00pm. Students can expect to be in class at least 30 hours per week; occasional weekends may be required for film shoots.
Minimum 315 hours for certificate eligibility. Students are expected to attend all classes, arrive on-time, and stay for the duration of the class.
Students are expected to make satisfactory progress in their studies and meet all assignment deadlines. Weekly homework will be assigned. Passing grade equals 60%.
